In response to the increased security threat following the September 11 attacks on the US, the chancellor announced an additional £100 million for the Ministry of Defence, £20 million towards the blocking of funding to terrorist organisations, £30 million to the Metropolitan police and other police authorities, and £100 million towards humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and other countries.
