Webwatch: From ballot box to beat box as politicians go clubbing

Music station MTV has ensured there will definitely be a big swing this election - by launching a web game depicting politicians on a nightclub dancefloor.

The site features Tony Blair, William Hague and Ann Widdecombe partying to the strains of one of the election's newest and most surprising themes - the chart hit "Don't stop movin'" by S Club 7.

MTV.co.uk carries the promise that web users can "watch the prospective leaders of this country get down and dirty on the dancefloor".

Surfers can alter the settings on the page so that Widdecombe can wiggle to the pop group Hear'say's "Pure and Simple" or "Lady" by Modjo.

Alternatively web watchers can see Tony Blair spinning to Eminem's "Real Slim Shady" or William Hague going wild to Papa Roach's "Last Resort".

The site is a model for democracy as it is the surfer who chooses the music and the moves.

Users can also select the venue, the options being an Ibiza beach, a rocky shoreline at sunset or the Houses of Parliament.

Were the scenario to be repeated in real life, it would be certain to renew interest in politics amongst the supposedly apathetic youth of Britain.

However, there seems little prospect of seeing the politicians clubbing in the near future.
