Peter Mandelson has mounted an attack on former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Speaking on Tuesday he said that road rage, the yob culture and general rudeness could be directly linked to Thatcher who "trumpeted her intolerance".

The Northern Ireland secretary, however, praised Michael Portillo for his efforts to make the Tories a more caring and tolerant party.
