BEVIN BOYS SHOULD APPLY FOR FORMAL WAR EFFORT RECOGNITION - WILLIAMS

Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, Roger Williams MP, is calling all former Bevin Boys to apply for a badge that recognises the contribution they made to the war effort. Roger Williams MP said:

“Over 48,000 men joined this scheme and I would encourage as many surviving Bevin Boys as possible to apply for this badge in order that they receive the recognition that they so richly deserve for their work during this time and the valuable contribution that they made.”

“The Bevin Boys were recruited to work in the coal mining industry following a shortage of labour due to the war effort. These young men were essential to the domestic war effort and often faced conditions equally as tough as those who were sent to the front lines in Europe, Africa or Asia.

“I am delighted that their effort is now going to be recognised with this badge, which will be launched in March to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the demobbing of the last Bevin Boys.”
