POST OFFICE SHAM
Upminster MP, Angela Watkinson, said this week,
“The Post Office consultation on the threatened closure of our post office branches in Woodhall Parade, Berther Road and Camborne Avenue has proved to be the complete sham we all knew it would be.”
“At my meetings with the Post Office and the utterly useless Postwatch, supposedly the customer representative, I made the strongest possible case for our community post offices to remain open. This was followed up by letters, petitions and hundreds of forms completed by post office users, all protesting about the loss of service and the damaging effect of the proposed closures on our local small shopping parades. The Post Office wrote to say that all these points were being considered seriously, but yesterday, a brief phone call informed me that all three branches would be closed. The sub postmasters wanted their branches to remain open, their customers wanted them to remain open, the neighbouring shopkeepers wanted them to remain open, but the government has simply ignored everyone. I wonder why this announcement was held back until after the London elections?”
