Diane Abbott MP praises Working Links project in Hackney
20 May 2007
Working Links recently welcomed Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, to our office in Hackney so she could get a glimpse of the work we are doing with local lone parents.
The Labour MP met with jobseekers who we are currently helping. She said: “I was thrilled to be able to see the work of the Jigsaw Programme for Lone Parents in Hackney. Working Links has been hugely successful in helping local people back to work and supporting them through the process of finding a job.
“The help they give to lone parents is invaluable and stretches right across the board from CV writing to accessing affordable healthcare to doing motivational work. I hope to pay another visit in a few months to see how the Programme has grown.”
David McManus, Delivery Manager for Hackney said: “We help people back into work by removing the practical barriers that stop them from finding a job, whether this is a lack of skills or low self confidence. We have found that a lone parent’s main barrier to work is not always childcare.
“It may be a lack of basic skills or self esteem issue. We pride ourselves on providing individuals with a package of support tailored to their particular needs. We really change people’s lives for the better.”
