Amicus guide to safety during the festive season
16 December 2005
Amicus Britain's largest private sector union are releasing a guide to safety during the festive season for female members.
The guide book outlines precautions women can take to help protect themselves and lower the risks that being out late during the busy Christmas period can lead to.
Jennie Bremner, Amicus London Regional Secretary says.
"With research showing that drink related violent crime and drink spiking are on the increase it's important that women know the risks that unfortunately go hand in hand with socialising."
Statistics show that 55% of all date rape victims had been drinking or were drunk when raped. A staggering 80% of rapists had been drinking before they raped and rape drugs are estimated to be involved in up to one in five rapes reported.
The Guide also comes with a wallet sized insert that includes information on how to get home safely which can be taken with you on a night out.
Alcohol facts such as units in more common drinks and recommended units per day are also included to help women gauge how much they have been drinking.
"The guide also contains useful websites, listings of advice centres and text services that can help you get home safely. Unlicensed minicab drivers commit 10 sexual assaults each month so services like Transport for London's Text service are vital for women trying to make their way home safely." Said Jennie Bremner
