Disability networking event

Are you interested in finding out more about issues affecting people with disabilities? Would you like to know what support and help is available and who is out there to help disabled people?

On Saturday 8 July Northampton Borough Council will be joining forces with other local organisations that provide information and services for disabled people for a free informal networking event. The event is being held at the Guildhall and runs from 9.30am to 1pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along and see the displays, find out more about what’s available locally to help disabled people enjoy access to information and services, and meet other people who are interested in improving the quality of life for disabled people in Northampton.

The new "Hate Crimes" film made by local services in Northamptonshire will be shown during the earlier part of the morning. And throughout the morning young people from Northampton’s Youth Forum will be on hand, supporting Northants Police and Community Safety initiatives, to help you to get your mobile phone or pods marked to protect against theft.

Entry is free and the venue is wheelchair accessible. There will be stands and displays from the following groups and services:

Fairfield School
Northampton Volunteering Centre’s Drivers Scheme and Age Span Scheme
DOSTIYO Women’s and Girls organisation
Northampton Borough Council’s Recycling Team
Northamptonshire Police Hate Crimes Unit
Victim Support / Domestic Violence Forum
Northampton’s Youth Forum
Northampton’s Disabled People’s Forum

Councillor Phil Larratt, Northampton Borough Council Cabinet member responsible for  community engagement said: “This is an excellent opportunity to get information on the issues that matter to you and to find out what services are available locally.
