Welcome

Welcome to the Public Affairs microsite of The National Pharmaceutical Association (NPA) - which represents the professional and commercial interests of the owners of some 11,000 community pharmacies in the UK.
As the pharmacy profession faces a challenging future, the NPA provides leadership, knowledge and advocacy for its membership and for the profession - and is regarded as the face and voice of UK community pharmacy. A key aspect of the Association's remit is to raise awareness of the pharmacy profession, and to promote community pharmacists' current and potential contribution to the health of the nation.
We believe that the role of the community pharmacist is more than about dispensing prescriptions! Community pharmacy provides an invaluable, community-based, local source of healthcare advice and services, which include medicines management, smoking cessation and coronary heart disease risk-assessment programmes, to name but a few. Crucially, there is so much more that a pharmacist can do to alleviate the burden on the NHS and the workload of GPs - such as supplementary prescribing and repeat dispensing and the treatment of minor ailments.

The NPA produces a number of position statements - to concisely detail our views and policies on key pharmacy, healthcare and medicines issues.
