WHAT IS THE MODERN MASONRY ALLIANCE?

The MMA is a strategic coalition of interests with a common cause in developing and promoting masonry construction – the bricks, blocks, stone and lintels; the cement and mortar which bind them together; the researchers and technicians advancing the industry; the men and women who build masonry homes, buildings and structures.

WHO DO WE REPRESENT?

We represent those involved in the manufacture of brick, block, stone and mortar in the UK, and the users of those products. In total we represent a £2 billion building materials sector and a much larger added value supply chain, responsible for the structure and cladding of over 85% of new houses in the UK. The MMA members source the vast majority of their products within our shores. Over 150,000 people are employed in the masonry manufacturing and construction processes.

WHY DO WE EXIST?

We, the MMA, passionately believe that communities deserve homes which are safe, durable and adaptable. We believe that masonry homes provide future-proofed options against likely climate and ecological changes that will occur in the next few decades. We encourage innovative development in the sector, including better quality and improved productivity. We are committed to delivering sustainable and attractive communities at affordable cost. We have come together to demonstrate the strengths of on-site construction and to drive progress on quality, safety, waste minimisation and productivity through the supply chain. We wish to position masonry construction as the core modern method of building.

WORKING FOR THE COMMUNITY

Our members supply the construction of choice for over 85% of the UK housing industry. This means cement, bricks, blocks, stone and mortars – for foundations, floors and walls. We believe that masonry delivers quieter, more secure and more robust homes – faster and cheaper. This means that communities have comfortable, safe and desirable homes to enrich the lives of this generation and those which follow.
