Local Government Information Unit
Local Government Information Unit
The Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) is an independent policy and research organisation, which provides an information, advice, training and lobbying service to its members. Our members are over 150 local authorities and trade unions.

The LGIU celebrates the strengths of local democracy and advances an assertive case for greater powers, discretions and financial freedoms for local government.

The LGIU has two partner organisations, which inform and extend its work on local democracy.

The Education Network
The Education Network
The Education Network (TEN) develops, promotes and disseminates the role and good practice of local authorities in raising levels of educational achievement. It offers support and services to member local authorities - focusing particularly on the role of councillors. TEN works with its members to encourage a Local Education Authority-led agenda for positive change.

The Democratic Health Network
The Democratic Health Network
The Democratic Health Network (DHN) acts as a bridge between health bodies and local authorities, enabling each to develop a firmer understanding of the others' systems and priorities, and helping them tackle the wider causes of ill-health.
