What the Society Does
The Law Society is the representative and regulatory body for solicitors of England and Wales. In order to practice, all solicitors must have a Practising Certificate, which is issued by the Law Society on an annual basis. There are over 120,000 solicitors on the Roll.
The overriding purpose of the Society is to regulate solicitors effectively. We set the professional standards and ensure that they are met.
We also represent the interests of solcitors and provide practice support to enable them to provide optimum service to clients.
Finally, we lobby for law reform that is in the public interest and creates a better system of justice.
Our Mission Statement
The Law Society will strive to guarantee:
To the public - access to high quality legal services;
To solicitors - vigorous promotion of their interests;
To society - a leading voice on law reform.
