LINK Interchange Network Ltd is the transaction management Company that operates the LINK ATM network - the world's busiest, and the UK's only shared ATM network - on behalf of the 51 Network Members. LINK (the corporate organisation) services the branded ATM network by switching and providing settlement for shared transactions, providing the central hub, the telecommunications infrastructure and management information.
LINK switches transactions for over 55,000 ATMs deployed in the UK by the LINK Members who have issued over 101 million LINK-enabled ATM debit cards to their customers. The LINK ATM network is identified by the familiar LINK brand, which according to research has a huge 92% awareness level among the general public.
Switching online, fully-authorised, real-time transactions is the core business of the Company although it also operates gateway services to key international payment systems. In addition to providing ATM transaction switching and settlement to its network Members, LINK is seeking to gain a foothold in the broader payment systems market to ensure its future success.
LINK provides outsourced ATM management and card services via ATMOS, its wholly owned outsourcing division. ATMOS provides outsourced transaction management services including processing, card authorisation and ATM/card management services to Financial Institutions and Independent ATM Operators. LINK has delivered a Mobile Phone Top Up service on behalf of the UK's mobile operators. Prepay customers of all the major operators, who possess a card from one of the thirteen participating banks/building societies, can now top up their airtime at over 20,000 ATMs in the UK. LINK also provides access to basic banking facilities at over 15,000 Post Office counters as part of the UK Government's Universal Banking Services programme, which enables state benefits to be paid electronically into bank accounts. LINK also provides a low cost branch sharing solution that allows customers of participating institutions to share each others' branches for transactions. The Company is also developing mobileATM (www.mobileatm.co.uk) which will allow balance enquiries and other services to be obtained from Mobile Phone handsets. Core business volumes have grown substantially over the last decade. In 2004, the company processed over 2.5 billion transactions, making LINK Interchange Network Ltd the largest volume ATM switching company worldwide.
