About the Institute

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) is Europe’s largest accountancy body with over 126,000 members working in business, accountancy firms and the public sector.

Our members occupy a pre-eminent position in the UK and have a unique perspective on the issues facing our economy. They work in and advise businesses of all sizes in every single economic sector and many are small business entrepreneurs themselves. Whilst in large business, our members account for over half of FTSE 100 finance directors.

The Institute combines the knowledge of our members with rigorous, forward-looking research, to act as a powerful advocate for business. Like chartered accountants themselves, we are known for the excellence of our advice and have contributed greatly to improvements in enterprise, corporate governance and the UK’s regulatory system. Going forward, we will continue to provide informed views on the key policy issues which impact across industry and the profession.
