HFMA's mission statement...
...'to be the voice of Healthcare Finance'
It aims to achieve this via its five year strategy - Raising our Game 2005-10 which has four key themes:-
- Increasing Influence
- Improving Learning and Development opportunities
- Providing better services for members
- Building our Commercial and Governance infrastructure
Our purpose is:
HFMA seeks to represent, support and provide high quality, independent and objective advice to its members and the wider healthcare community. It aims to promote best practice and innovation in financial management and leadership across the UK health economy through its local and national networks. The Association aims to develop responses to national policy and exert influence in shaping the wider healthcare agenda.
HFMA is the representative body for finance staff in healthcare. Our members work predominantly in NHS finance but a growing proportion are drawn from other professions, Non Executive Directors and the Independent Sector. Our aim is to support and promote high quality financial management in UK healthcare, helping to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of frontline services. Supported by a 13-strong branch network, we set and promote the highest professional standards in financial management and corporate governance in healthcare. We offer personal and professional development by providing access to tailored education and training, offering a professional network for members and a greater contribution to national policy.
HFMA currently offers one qualification - the Introductory Certificate in Healthcare Financial Management which is available by e-learning. For more details please visit - (include link)
The Association is currently developing an Intermediate and Advanced Certificate to cater for the needs of members and non-members.
Focus on members:
Our 13 branches throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland range in size from 50 to 550 members. All branches provide members with a local network through a programme of training, education and social events. Each branch also has its own executive committee and a series of special interest committees. All members belong to both the national association and a local branch.
HFMA has a relationship with a number of international organisations such as HFMA in the USA and HEAD in the Netherlands. We also run a number of international study trips abroad to enable colleagues to visit other countries to find out more about their healthcare systems.
Responding to personal and professional development needs.
Using its network of finance professionals, branches and professional committees, the Association ensures its programme of development activities can meet the continuing professional development (CPD) needs of finance and non-finance staff alike. The HFMA's programmes complement those delivered by employers in their own workplaces and health economies.. The Association is also well placed to articulate the views of finance managers and ensure that the Voice of Healthcare Finance is heard in the development of national policy relating to healthcare across the UK.
