Tackling Obesities: Future Choices
Caroline Flint, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health at the Department of Health, is the sponsor Minister for the Foresight project on Obesity.
Project Aim
The project will gather scientific evidence from across a wide range of disciplines to inform a strategic view of this issue. It will draw from areas of research including:
- Genetics
- Neuroscience
- Pharmacology
- Economics
- Psychology
- Social Sciences (e.g. sociology, social psychology, social history, policy studies, social epidemiology)
- Anthropology
- Ethical Issues
- Nutrition
- Food technology
Project Outputs
The Obesity project outputs will include:
- State of science reviews in a form intelligible beyond the discipline
- Visions of the future underpinned by an understanding of the key drivers
- Identification of key challenges and engagement of those who can take them forward
- Enduring networks of people to continue dialogue as the issues evolve
- Innovation in forms of engagement and communication
Project Process
The project can be divided into 5 phases: Scope, Review, Analysis & Synthesis, Engagement and Launch & Action. The project is currently in the 'Scope' phase.
