FLA TO HOST SEMINARS ON NEW ANTI MONEY LAUNDERING GUIDANCE

Two half-day seminars being held by FLA (Finance & Leasing Association) in London (25 April) and Edinburgh (3 May) will provide a practical approach to the revised Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) Guidance.

These unique seminars aim to provide FLA members with a detailed understanding of the new Guidance and of how the radical new risk-based approach will be applied in their own specialist sectors. Three concurrent workshops have been specifically tailored to cover Consumer, Asset and Motor Finance.

They are designed as a back-to-back follow-up to one day introductory conferences on the new Guidance and its broad impact on compliance practitioners, being organised on behalf of JMLSG by FLA and BBA (British Bankers Association) in London and Edinburgh on 24 April/2 May respectively. Members are strongly recommended to attend both sessions in one of the two centres.

The objective of the more specialised FLA seminars is to:

• Outline the sector specific legal and regulatory framework for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter Combating Financing of Terrorism (CFT) requirements and systems across the Consumer, Asset and Motor finance services sector as set out in the JMLSG Guidance.
  
• Interpret the requirements of the Guidance, and how they may be implemented in practice.
  
• Highlight best practice in AML/CFT procedures through a proportionate, sector specific risk-based approach.
  
• Assist Member firms to design and implement the systems and controls necessary to mitigate the risks of the firm being used in connection with money laundering and the financing of terrorism

Firms will be expected to comply with the new Guidance over a short six month period ending 13 August 2006. These seminars present an unmissable opportunity for FLA members to understand their obligations under the JMLSG Guidance.
