All Party Group on Management
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Management (APPGM) exists to help develop closer understanding between politicians, business leaders and senior public sector managers.
Supported by the Chartered Management Institute, the APPGM's well-attended quarterly meetings provide a lively forum for high-level debate on topical management and leadership themes, introduced by high profile guest speakers. Recent speakers have included Bill Rammell MP, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education; Women and Equalities Minister Meg Munn MP; Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Jenny Watson; Sir David Varney; and Sir Andrew Foster. The Group has also been addressed by speakers from leading employers such as Lloyds TSB, Network Rail, Grant Thornton, Accenture, Morgan Stanley, Atkins, British Gas, Marks & Spencer, the British Lung Foundation and McLaren Racing Ltd.
Members of the Group receive regular news updates on management-related issues, and are invited to contribute to the Chartered Management Institute's bimonthly journal, Professional Manager, which has a readership of over 100,000.
The Group has been running for over twenty years and was formally registered at the House of Commons in July 2001. It currently has over seventy members.
Next meeting: The UK Commission for Employment and Skills - 18 June 2008
The Government has recognised the vital role of management skills in increasing productivity and maximising the impact of employers' investment in skills - yet there is a growing body of evidence of the UK's weakness in this area. How can the new UK Commission for Employment and Skills support better management and leadership? Joining us to address the challenges ahead will be an expert panel including:
- David Lammy MP - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills
- Chris Humphries - Chief Executive, UK Commission for Employment and Skills
- Ian Smith - Chair, Leadership and Management Advisory Panel
The meeting will take place at 6pm in Westminster on Wednesday 18 June 2008. For more details please contact Patrick Woodman on 020 7421 2704 or email patrick.woodman@managers.org.uk.
