Welcome

The Charity Commission is the government organisation for the statutory regulation of charities in England and Wales. We register charities, and advise, monitor and supervise them. We also look into allegations of wrongdoing, and have a range of powers we can use where we find evidence of this.

We keep the Public Register of Charities, which holds details of all the registered Charities in England and Wales - over 180,000 of them. This Register can be seen at any of our offices or viewed at our website at www.charitycommission.gov.uk. We don't make grants or loans, either to organisations or individuals.

We provide a wide range of free publications and guidance - all available on our website - on every aspect of registering and running a charity. We work in consultation with the charitable sector to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of charities as a whole, and are increasingly adopting a partnership approach to developing new policy and practice.
