Welcome
Welcome to the CPRE micro-site at ePolitix.
CPRE exists to promote the tranquillity, diversity and beauty of rural England by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country.
CPRE is an effective campaigning organisation that provides a sound, knowledgeable perspective on the pressures affecting the countryside and on the need for urban regeneration. We work to ensure that necessary rural development respects the quality and character of the countryside. We need to conserve the things about it that everyone values - particularly its tranquillity.
Effective democratic land-use planning is the unsung hero of environmental protection and has always been one of CPRE's top campaigning priorities. As we have shown with our striking maps, tranquillity can be measured, valued and protected through the planning system. Sometimes it may even be enhanced. We are campaigning for the Government to measure tranquillity as we have, publish measurements annually, and amend planning policy to protect, preserve and enhance tranquillity in future.
We all have some power to influence the future of the countryside through our everyday decisions; how we travel, the food we buy, and how we use and consume energy, as well as by influencing Government and decision-makers.
CPRE invites you to engage with our work and debate these important issues by placing comments on our blog: www.cpre.org.uk/debates
