WHAT IS BSPF?

The British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) was set up in 1999 to bring together under one roof the UK bodies representing contractors, manufacturers, distributors and retailers of swimming pools, spas, saunas, steam rooms and associated equipment.

BSPF comprises:

	SPATA (The Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association) With over 240 members, SPATA sets and publishes technical standards for construction and operation of pools, spas, saunas and steam rooms. These authoritative standards have been developed by experienced pool builders over the past 40 years and are widely recognised and used by architects and contractors. Technical advice and mediation services are available. SPATA operates the SPATASHIELD Bond and Warranty scheme, which is compulsory for all pool contractor members and offers customers insurance-backed protection when buying a pool or spa from a SPATA member.
	SPATEX The annual trade exhibition held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Exhibition Centre, with over 100 exhibitors showing the best in pool equipment. The 2006 show will be held from 5-7 February. All enquiries regarding Spatex Tel. 01264 358558.
	Pool Industry Promotion Handles generic public relations on behalf of the pool industry. Also publishes its own magazines Pool and Spa Industry - a trade magazine published six times annually and Pool and Spa Lifestyle - a consumer magazine published twice annually.
	BISHTA (The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) Recently formed to represent the fast-growing domestic self-contained (portable) spa and hot tub market. Its primary objective is to ensure that all portable spas on public display are rigorously maintained and tested to ensure microbiologically safe spa water at all times. Members have to comply with Association test procedures and standards and ensure that their staff have adequate water hygiene awareness training. International links BSPF is a member of the European Union of Swimming Pool and Spa Associations, and has close links with the National Spa and Pool Institute of America, and other similar associations in other countries.
