British Pregnancy Advisory Service is the UK's largest specialist abortion provider, with around 48,000 clients each year. bpas is a non-profit making charity. [mission statement]
We support reproductive choice by advocating and providing high-quality affordable services for those who wish to prevent an unplanned pregnancy with contraception or end one by abortion.
bpas has a commitment to education, research and the development of good practice. We provide accurate information and informed comment about the causes, consequences and management of unwanted pregnancy. [current issues] We collaborate closely with the NHS and in many places provide an abortion service on its behalf.
bpas believes that
- currently available methods of contraception cannot prevent all unintended pregnancy and legal abortion is necessary if women are to regulate their fertility. [why women need abortion]
- contraception and legal abortion are an essential part of health care and should be freely available to all through a publicly funded NHS.
- reproductive health services offered by specialist agencies such as bpas are an essential supplement to the NHS if all women with unwanted pregnancies are able to have early access to affordable specialist care. [abortion services]
