Creating the IT Profession

BCS is the industry body for IT professionals and a Chartered Engineering Institution for Information Technology, responsible for setting standards for the IT profession.  The society is also leading the change in public perception and appreciation of the economic and social importance of professionally managed IT projects and programmes.

The vision of BCS is to see the IT profession recognized as being a profession of the highest integrity and competence.   

BCS is raising the stature of the IT profession by:

  • Supporting individual members and organizations with continued professional development   
  • Advancing Knowledge through lectures and debate
  • Providing a range of IT qualifications from user to practitioner level 
  • Advises, informs and persuades industry and government on successful IT implementation.
  • Shaping opinion through its publication of practical books, bulletins, reports and journals
  • Providing networking opportunities through regional branches, forums and specialist groups
