ATL Executive endorses new pension arrangements for teachers
21 October 2005
At its Executive Committee meeting today, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) endorsed the framework principles for the reform of public sector pension schemes – including the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
This agreement followed intense negotiations between government, employers and TUC affiliated public sector unions.
Gerald Imison, deputy general secretary of ATL said:
“Whilst ATL acknowledges the tremendous victory this agreement represents for existing teachers the Executive Committee is extremely concerned that future generations will not enjoy the same security in their retirement.
There remains a significant job of work to do because pension arrangements are an important factor in making the teaching profession attractive to our brightest young people.”
