Countryside tranquillity
The Campaign to Protect Rural England has unveiled a new way of measuring and mapping countryside tranquility, challenging the public to use its new maps and act to prevent "further massive erosion" of rural tranquility.
"In a sense tranquility, for us, is sort of an overarching concept which covers a lot of our concerns about the encroachment of the town on the countryside, about housing, roads, aviation, and out-of-town shopping centres; the general suburbanisation of the countryside, which is something why CPRE has existed for six years to try and hold back," Shaun Spiers, chief executive of the CPRE, says in an interview with ePolitix.com.
"The countryside has never been under greater threat, and this is another way of getting people to sit up and see just what they are in danger of losing."
