Government Response: Department for Education and Skills
A DfES Spokesperson said:"Schools PFI is one of the government's greatest successes - by the end of this Spending Review period (March 2004), £3 billion will have been spent on modernising schools through the PFI since 1997.
"600 PFI schools have been rebuilt or refurbished in the last seven years, including more than 100 brand new schools. PFI is now delivering some excellent school buildings and BSF will go even further to enhance the process.
