Schools are set for a "massive investment" with a £5.1 billion building programme.

Tony Blair revealed details on Thursday of the first wave of local education authorities in England to benefit from the Building Schools for the Future programme.

ATL’s general secretary, Dr Mary Bousted, said: “It is a very welcome admission that many of the country’s school buildings are now woefully inadequate for the needs of a modern education service. Investment has been desperately needed for so many years and the Building Schools for the Future programme will only touch a small fraction of the schools that desperately need this sort of investment.
