The Strategic Rail Authority has published its quarterly report on train performance in the UK.

SRA Chairman, Richard Bowker said: "Passengers can be pleased that performance is moving gradually in the right direction but of course it's not enough. The timetable changes that we have made for the forthcoming winter timetable are intended to continue the upward trend."

A spokesman for the DfT told ePolitix.com: "While we are obviously pleased that performance is improving we recognise that there is a long way to go before we get the service up to the standards we want for passengers."

A spokesman for Virgin Trains told ePolitix.com: "We welcome the SRA's report and are pleased to see that performance is improving. However we are not complacent. Our passengers want better services and that's what we intend to give them."

A spokesman for ATOC told ePolitix.com: "The overall picture for train performance between April and June showed an improvement in the number of trains arriving on time.

"An encouraging sign is that 17 train companies delivered a more punctual service. Also during this period, trains companies reduced the delays they are responsible for by six per cent.

"This was achieved through to a heavy focus on improving train reliability and the recruitment of drivers."
