Employers should end abuses of the employment rights system, the government is set to warn.

Increasing numbers of temporary workers are losing out on rights granted to people with permanent status and today DTI minister Alan Johnson is expected to highlight growing government concern.

Yvonne Bennion, policy specialist at the Work Foundation, told ePolitix.com: "Employment protection law needs to ensure that people currently labelled as casual or temporary, but who are, in reality, working as an employees have the protection that employees enjoy.

"There is a need to distinguish between this and the genuinely short-term assignment."
