Forum Brief: Tourism
A new campaign entitled "Enjoy England" has been launched by VisitBritain.
All nine regional development agencies, nine regional tourist boards and 25 private and public sector organisations are participating.
Forum Response: Countryside Alliance
Richard Burge, chief executive of the Countryside Alliance, told ePolitix.com: "The alliance welcomes this campaign wholeheartedly. We are gratified and delighted to see a government-backed campaign encouraging people to discover what we have always known to be true - the countryside is one of the UK's greatest assets and is there for everyone to enjoy.
"We very much hope that this campaign is successful and that we can look forward to a record tourist season in rural England - no one deserves it more".
Forum Response: British Airways
A spokesman for British Airways told ePolitix.com: "We work very closely with these types of campaigns and support them fully.
"From a British Airways perspective it is vital that incoming tourism starts to flourish again as soon as possible.
"We will be launching a wide range of sales and marketing campaigns across our key global markets in the coming weeks to ensure that we attract as much incoming business to the UK as possible over the busy summer months."
Forum Response: The Woodland Trust
Dr James Cooper of the Woodland Trust said: "We welcome the launch of 'Enjoy England'. One of the Woodland Trust's key objectives is to enhance public awareness and enjoyment of our woodland heritage.
"Our ancient woodland is one of the glories of England's countryside and is at its best over the next few weeks when the bluebells, recently voted the nation's favourite flower are out in force.
"It is important that the government recognises the contribution our countryside makes to tourism and leisure and in this regard we welcome today's announcement. Encouraging the good stewardship that makes our countryside attractive to visitors should also be a cornerstone of government policy."
