Forum Brief: The City and the euro

The Corporation of London has published a report examining the wider importance of London's prominent position as a global financial market.

Forum Response: Institute of Directors

A spokesman for the IoD told ePolitix.com: "The City of London is undoubtedly a major asset to the UK economy and will continue to be so. What is more there is absolutely no evidence that the City is suffering from the policy of keeping the pound.

"If anything, the City has extended its lead over its rivals since the launch of the euro in 1999."

Forum Response: Corporation of London

Dame Judith Mayhew, deputy chairman of the policy and resources committee at the Corporation of London, said: "This report reiterates how important the City's position as a global financial centre is to the European economy, and how important Europe is to the City."
