Forum Brief: Fireworks bill
The Fireworks Bill will progress to committee stage after receiving its second reading in parliament.
Bill Tynan, the MP sponsoring the legislation, and Guide Dogs for the Blind are hopeful that regulations will be brought into force by the next bonfire night. The bill would enable the government to place restrictions on the sale and use of fireworks.
Forum Response: Guide Dogs for the Blind
Robin Hutchinson, head of communications for Guide Dogs for the Blind, said: "The massive increase in the use of fireworks over the last few years continues to cause great distress and disruption to many hundreds and thousands of people across the country.
"For many guide dog owners who are forced to sedate, retrain or even retire their dogs because of the irresponsible use of fireworks, today's news will come as a huge relief.
"We believe the legislation will strike an important balance between not ruining people's fun, but not ruining some people's lives either."
