The Strategic Rail Authority is today expected to announce the first in a series of cuts in train services.

Around 100 daily services could be cut from the national timetable in May.

George Muir, director general of ATOC, said: "This is part of a programme of improvements and is a sensible and necessary decision which will improve the services for passengers."
