Forum Brief: Environmental protection
The Conservatives have challenged the government's commitment to the environment, focusing on plans to build a seaport at a nature reserve.
Peter Ainsworth, shadow environment food and rural affairs secretary, visited Dibden Bay - the site of a controversial new port terminal and the location of internationally recognised wildlife reserves.
Forum Response: English Nature
Sir Martin Doughty, Chair of English Nature, told ePolitix.com: "The conservation of our natural resources is not an add on, something to be considered at a later date. It is vital to our future well-being and prosperity because a healthy environment supports a long-term sustainable economy and contributes to a healthy and balanced social framework.
"English Nature is determined to safeguard this essential facet of our lives."
