Forum Brief: Euro referendum
Downing Street has been warned by broadcasters that a referendum on the European single currency may not receive adequate coverage if it is held on the same day as elections to the Scottish parliament and the Welsh assembly. Plans to hold the vote on May 1, 2003 could be challenged in the courts.
Forum Response: Business for Sterling
George Eustice, campaign director of Business for Sterling, told ePolitix.com: "The public is still two to one against the euro and the Labour Party is looking increasingly divided on the issue. With 1 May no longer a realistic option, time is running out for the government in this Parliament."
Forum Response: BBC
A spokeswoman for the BBC told ePolitix.com: "The dates of referendums and elections are entirely a matter for the government and the BBC does not wish to influence their decision in any way."
