Forum Brief: DTI protest
Members of the Communication Workers Union are to demonstrate at 11 o'clock on Wednesday 24 April at the offices of the Department of Trade and Industry.
The protestors are to target their former union chief, now the trade and industry minister Alan Johnson. He is now responsible for Employment Tribunals, which the union claims are biased towards the employer.
Forum Response: Communication Workers Union
Billy Hayes, general secretary of the Communication Workers Union, told ePolitix.com: "If an Employment Tribunal decides a worker has been fairly sacked, that it the end of the matter. Yet if a Tribunal decides that a worker should be re-employed, the employer can ignore the ruling.
"This is blatantly unfair. We want the decisions of an Employment Tribunal to be legally binding upon the employer, as they are on the employee."
