Forum Brief: Hunting protests

The government has been told by pro-hunting supporters to expect a summer of protest culminating in a reinstated London march.

On Friday 12th April delegations from local rural communities across the country will visit over 12 DEFRA offices to present letters to rural affairs minister Alun Michael demanding that the consultation on the hunting issue is open, public, transparent and accountable.

Forum Response: Countryside Alliance

Richard Burge, chief executive of the Countryside Alliance, told ePolitix.com: "The tone and timing of the huge London march will be dictated by government action from here on in. We will not accept any public or private assurances.

"The countryside needs to see firm evidence, and quickly, of government's determination to safeguard their rights. Whether our reinstated march will be a fierce protest or a passionate but positive demonstration of principle will be down to the government".
