Forum Brief: Tube line repair work
Transport commissioner Bob Kiley has proposed the option of closing entire tube lines for essential repair work.
Kiley outlined his plans as part of his response to the government's PPP deal for the Tube. He argued that most workers only get 90 minutes of productive time to carry out repairs at night on the Tube and continuing at such a slow pace will take too long for delivering real change.
Forum Response: Transport for London
A spokesperson for Transport for London told ePolitix.com: "Under the proposed PPP there will be no improvements to the underground for a decade a more. Indeed, it is highly questionable whether any concrete improvement will result from the PPP scheme.
"Transport for London is considering the option of closing lines on a short term basis in order to achieve faster benefits which, unlike the PPP, will lead to a long term renewal of the tube."
