Forum Brief: Tube PPP
London Regional Transport has responded to the threat of legal action in relation to the proposed PPP for the London Underground by promising a full response to the mayor and Transport for London's requests for further legal documentation by 10.00am on Wednesday.
London Regional Transport has also extended the consultation period with the mayor and TfL by "at least" seven days.
Forum Response: Transport for London
Bob Kiley, transport commissioner at Transport for London, told ePolitix.com: "London Regional Transport have contacted us to say that they will not respond to the requests put to them by our lawyers in relation to the PPP for the London Underground until 10am on Wednesday morning.
"They continue to fail to answer the key question which we have been putting to them since 22 February. That is: "Are the PPP contracts still under negotiation?"
"The significance of this question is that, if the contracts are still being negotiated, and, in particular, if the provisions on risk transfer which are key to any judgement of value for money had not been finalised, then London Regional Transport Board had no business recommending that the government proceed with the PPP contracts and Stephen Byers had no business accepting that recommendation.
"They have now promised an answer to this question on Wednesday morning and our lawyers will carefully review that response."
