Forum Brief: Tory plans for NHS

Shadow health secretary, Dr Liam Fox is arguing that the NHS will never work in its present form.

He is set to signal plans to end NHS role as the primary health provider and call for the expansion of private healthcare. Fox will tell the Tory faithful that simply throwing money at the NHS is no longer a way to deliver better patient healthcare.

Forum Response: Unison

Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, told ePolitix.com: "The Tories starved the NHS of funds all the years they were in office and now claim that it is so broken it can't be fixed.

"They are now showing their true colours and their true agenda of privatising health services. The Tories and private health insurers have been all too quick to prey on peoples' fears and scaremonger about NHS treatment.

"They share a common agenda, to sell health insurance and clear the way for private companies to make massive profits and pick and choose who will get treatment. Charges always hit the most vulnerable and the poor, Unison has long argued that the NHS is the best health insurance for all."
