The Scottish affairs select committee has declined to recommend the BBC introduce a Scottish Six O' Clock News in their report on post devolution broadcasting in Scotland.

Mike Weir, SNP member for Angus, and Alastair Carmichael, Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland, expressed their disappointment at the conclusion.

A spokesperson for the BBC told ePolitix.com: "We indicated when we gave evidence to the committee that the BBC will be reviewing our news and current affairs output at the end of the current Scottish parliamentary term in May 2003. The aim of this exercise is to ensure that our output matches our viewers' requirements. This remains the case."
