Forum Brief: Cancer Care
Cancer care may become so expensive that only the rich will be able to afford the latest and best treatment, a leading expert has warned. Karol Sikora, professor of oncology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London said that treatments are advancing at such a rate that the NHS would soon be unable to afford treatment for thousands of its patients.
Forum Response: Cancer Research UK
Professor Gordon McVie, director general of the Cancer Research UK, told ePolitix.com: "I agreed that a two-tier system would exist in cancer care. We are already seeing that, with the rich finding their way through the system. But I don't think its all about expensive drugs. It's more about a lack of equipment and soldiers on the ground. Every hospital should have up-to-date equipment and more cancer doctors and nurses."
