Forum Brief: DVT court ruling
Airlines are bracing themselves for a multi-million pound lawsuit seeking compensation for victims of so-called "economy class syndrome". The High Court yesterday cleared the way for a "class action" claim against the companies.
Forum Response: Virgin Atlantic
A spokesman for Virgin Atlantic told ePolitix.com: "Although we keep seeing our name mentioned in the media, we still haven't been contacted by any legal representative connected with the case. However, if any of our passengers do turn out to be linked to the case, we will mount a strong defence of our airline."
Forum Response: British Airways
A spokesman for British Airways told ePolitix.com: "We welcome the fact that all parties have been able to agree common basis for pursuing these claims. The proposed Group Litigation Order will serve to provide greater clarity in terms of the process, procedures and timetable for the court's handling of future legal claims.
"British Airways sympathises with all victims of DVT but since the World Health Organisation and the House of Lords agree that there is no evidence of a causal link between flying and DVT, claims will continue to be resisted."
