Britain looks to curb EU summits
Britain is planning to use its six-month presidency of the EU to scrap a European heads of government summit scheduled for late October.
EU leaders get together for four summits a year, but ministers believe some are held even if there is no point to them.
"The government wants to run a businesslike and effective presidency," an official said.
"We will only hold meetings when there is something to hold a meeting about."
