Tories target criminal memoirs

Former prisoners would be banned from selling their stories under proposals from the Conservatives.

Michael Howard, the Tory leader, will announce today that a Conservative government would amend the 2002 Proceeds of Crime Act so that literary and entertainment proceeds would be considered ill-gotten gains.

"Criminals should not benefit from their crimes. Quite the reverse - they should be punished for them," he will say.
