Rape reports soar whilst convictions fall
There has been a rise in the number of rapes reported in England and Wales, and conviction rates are dropping.
Figures published on Thursday showed that only one in 18 rapes reported to police results in a suspect being punished.
Some 11,700 rapes were reported in 2002, but a Home Office study said the actual number could be four times higher.
