Britain and the United States are working together over the issue of Iran's nuclear weapons potential, Jack Straw said yesterday.

The foreign secretary was speaking in Washington after talks with Condeleezza Rice, the incoming secretary of state.

Straw said: "It is a difficult issue because you have a country there in which there has been an unquestioned breach of its international obligations under the non proliferation treaty."
