European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana has warned that Britain's relationship with the rest of the EU could be thrown into doubt if the UK rejects the new constitution.

He said that while rejection would not be "the end of the world" it would have an impact on links with countries that accept it.

The FT also reports that the Institute of Directors is to poll its members about their views on the new EU constitution.
