John Reid has said the new chief nursing officer for England, whose appointment was announced yesterday, will also focus on hospital hygiene.

The health secretary said Chris Beasley, the former head of the NHS Modernisation Agency, would make tackling the MRSA "superbug" and other hospital infections her top priority.
