Commons expenses set to be cut

Mileage allowances for MPs will be reduced this week.

MPs, who receive travel expenses of 57.7p per mile, will have to accept the Inland Revenue-recommended upper limit of 40p per mile.

The change is expected to be included in the report by the Review Body on Senior Salaries to be published on Thursday.

This coincides with the first publication of every MP's annual expenses during the past three years.
